Adapt buildings to the environment, not the other way around
GT is currently planning its expansion into the Scandinavian markets, one of the few places in the world where it is possible to rely solely on renewable energy. But how will data centre fit in to the beautiful Scandinavian building culture, especially in the smaller communities?
Data centres are not know to be the worlds most beautiful buildings, as they are usually built for function rather than design. But there is no reason why they should disturb the nature in which they are built.
With our Norwegian data centres we want them to blend in more than anything, and adapt to the nature it surrounds itself in. To be at one with the environment just like the idea people have of most data, as data flowing through the “cloud”. We will do this by keeping trees, mountains and ground largely as it is today, and adapting our buildings to compliment the nature rather than disturbing it.
One of the most important ways we do this, is by using water cooled solutions. This makes our server rooms much more compact, and reduces our space requirements. And produces practically no noise, which means we do not have to unnecessarily disturb the immediate environment.
In addition, it is important for us to blend in with local building customs and traditions. We will try to do this by using timber and wood materials while maintaining the strict requirements for safety systems and security.
Our goal is to build sustainable and green data centers that are not only environmentally friendly, but also community friendly. We believe that it is possible to create a data center that not only meets the needs of the businesses that use it, but also contributes to the well-being of the local community.
To achieve this, we will focus on using renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, to reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and minimize our carbon footprint.
We understand the importance of community involvement in any development project and will work closely with local residents and businesses to ensure that our data centers are a positive addition to the community. We will provide employment opportunities for local residents and encourage local businesses to become suppliers for our data centers, creating a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship.
In addition, we will work to promote the education of sustainability and the importance of reducing our impact on the environment. We will provide opportunities for local schools to visit our data centers and learn about the latest green technologies and sustainability practices.
In conclusion, our goal is to build sustainable, green and community friendly data centers that are in harmony with the natural environment and local communities. We believe that by adopting this approach, we can create data centers that are not only environmentally responsible, but also contribute to the economic and social well-being of the communities in which they are located.
